History

Where the name comes from

This domain started life in 2022 as the home of a conference talk. Here is that story, and how the site you are reading relates to it.

The 2022 talk

In September 2022, AJ ONeal gave a talk at UtahJS Conf called "JS with Types: Types without Transpilation". Its subject was writing plain JavaScript that TypeScript's checker can still verify: types in JSDoc comments, a jsconfig.json, and no transpiling step. He registered jswithtypes.com for the talk, and from late September 2022 the domain served its slide deck.

The deck

The slides were published from a public GitHub repository, BeyondCodeBootcamp/jswithtypes.com, through GitHub Pages. They moved to a hand-written slide engine in November 2024 and were still online in May 2026, the last time a web archive captured them. The repository has no license file, so the slides are not reproduced here; follow the link to read them.

The jswt command-line tool

Alongside the talk, AJ ONeal published jswt, a command-line tool that sets up a project the way the talk describes: it runs tsc --init with a chosen set of flags and renames the result to jsconfig.json. It had 35 releases between September 2022 and January 2025 and is licensed under the Mozilla Public License 2.0. The quick start lists it as one of three ways to set up a project.

The tool's README shows the talk's title image from an address on this domain. That address now redirects to the video's thumbnail on YouTube, so the README keeps showing a picture.

2026: a new owner, a new site

The domain registration changed hands in September 2026. The site you are reading was built in October 2026 by the new owner, as a reference for the idea the talk argued for. It is written from scratch: none of the talk's slides, wording or images are reused.
